Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback Medvedev claimed his first championship for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has endured a torrid period, winning just one win at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in especial - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents the player's initial championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court after spring of 2023.

Victory also signifies the Russian has secured 21 championships at 21 distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a title is really nice," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, featuring in that event in the past months.

The player's defensive strategy and regular outbursts on the tennis court had caused commentators to wonder if his capacity to compete at the highest level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and play assertively, supported by an improved service.

The champion recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky opponent, winning 4 of the last five points to gain the advantage.

Both players traded service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his initial tour victory, seized the initiative to create a third set.

Moutet defended 4 initial chances in a competitive final set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner clinched the title with a rally at the net, with Moutet failing to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
